The Benefits of Individual Coaching and Program Design

Benefits Of Individual Coaching?

Thinking of Hiring a Coach?

So you’ve been training for a while now, whether it’s for CrossFit, to get better at your sport or simply for aesthetics. When you started you noticed rapid progress, you got into it as a result and now you’ve passed your original goals twice over, but as time goes on your progress has come to a halt, you’re not getting better, or, at least it doesn’t feel like it. What to do now?

Often we see people not know where to go with their training, they rely on either guesswork or internet programs written by someone who doesn’t know you, for a very large group of people with the intention of casting a wide net and ticking a box for everyone that goes through the program, but rarely all of them. Whilst these programs are great and written by people who know what they’re doing (most of the time) they don’t scale for you, they don’t care what injury
you’re dealing with, they don’t care if you need more strength work over endurance work, what’s on the program for the day is what you get. They work for some, but the majority need more, they need to target certain aspects of their training, they need to manage injuries and they need to take into account the bachelor party you went to on the weekend or the flu you just got over.

We wrote this article to help you decide if hiring a coach is the right move for you, and when to start thinking about doing so. To simplify the process and give you something to come back to
easily we’ve broken these down into different points and provided a brief summary of each.

This one’s for those who haven’t really tried their hand at training yet, and the main barrier that currently stands in your way is that you just don’t know where to start. We get it, it’s daunting and not knowing what to do makes it even worse, you find yourself asking questions like “how many reps of this am I supposed to do?”, “Is this supposed to hurt like this?” and many more. This is where hiring a coach comes in, we’re the guiding hand into your training journey, providing you with a plan structured for you, it’s not too hard and it’s not too easy, we’re also here to keep you accountable, more on this later.

Whilst some may feel as though hiring a coach is too “advanced” for them, it is quite the opposite, often times a coach is the best way to
start, it will save you time and money in the long run as well as help you avoid those common beginner errors.

You Aren't Progressing Anymore

Probably the number one reason to hire a coach, you’ve been following a generic program or programming for yourself and now you’re not seeing any progress. Having a coach that is able to subjectively look at your training goals and needs and put a plan in place is invaluable.

We know everyone likes doing the fun stuff but often times that’s not at all what you need, it’s the boring and hard things that are needed for progress when you’ve started to plateau and a coach is a perfect person to get you out of this slump.

Now whilst coaches are not physiotherapists, this is a very clear distinction to be made early on, we can help you put your physiotherapist’s exercises into a structured format and help you train around your injury, while still getting in your rehab and progressing in other areas of your training rather than letting all of your previous hard work go to waste.

While this is probably a coaches least favorite part of the job it is a necessary one, if you find yourself constantly skipping workouts because you’re unmotivated or “can’t be bothered” hiring a coach can be a great way to get out of this slump. We’ll make sure you’re getting your training in, whether that means being hard on you or meeting you where you’re at, we’ll get you going again and get your consistency where it should be.
